DRM Is Theft Fair Use advocates silenced by Big Brother. Commerce Dept. doesn't want to hear it [The Register]
The headline is hyperbolic (this is The Register, after all), but the article is riveting. Imagine a handful of Hollywood bigwigs, computer hardware manufacturers, and Microsoft all getting together with the Commerce Department to decide the best way to steal our fair use rights. So far, business as usual.
Now imagine the room filled to capacity with uninvited (and unwelcome) citizens trying to bring representation for themselves to the process. Buttons reading "DRM Is Theft," and "We Are The Stakeholders" pamphlets, and citizens' groups with names like "New York for Fair Use." Way cool.
