Microsoft's Monopoly Rents

Microsoft SEC filing shows hideous losses except for Windows. Where - surprise - it shows hideous profits [The Register]

The story on The Register claims this is an example of "monopoly rents."  I'm no economist, but I don't think it's uncommon for a business to use profit from a successful business unit to cover losses from a less successful one.  Granted, we're talking about insanely high profits from a company that's a convicted monopolist.  In the past I've heard that the Office division is carrying the rest of the company, but this is the first time that sort of data has been made public.
