Microsoft In Open Source Patent Scare MS exec rattles sabre, suggests Linux could infringe patents. Whose patents he doesn't say... [The Register]
At some point in the near future, somebody is going to write a new textbook on marketing or public relations or corporate communications, and it's going to have a chapter on FUD. I'd like to suggest this story for inclusion as an example, as it's a textbook case.
Microsoft says businesses and governments shouldn't adopt Linux or other Open Source technology because there's a risk they might get sued should there be an Intellectual Property dispute. Oh, and I wonder who might do the suing? Perhaps a convicted monopolist with a huge patent portfolio? 5:36:59 PM
