Woman dies from family's pit bull attack A picture named wolf0000.gifGA 'An autopsy on Tuesday determined that a 52-year-old woman found dead had been mauled by one of seven pit bulls living in her Norcross home...' According to relatives, she was afraid of the dogs in her home. Only one of the dogs had access to her when she died; the other six pets were found in another room with no access to the rest of the house... [Atlanta News] (This makes me want to howl; why leave a woman alone in a house with so many dogs if she's afraid of them... )
Dog shooting: a police response to misleading phone call? TN A misleading phone call and poor communications set the stage for a young dog's shooting. 'Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatchers appear to have exaggerated details of a cell-phone caller's report and, in doing so, played a key role in the Jan. 1 traffic stop during which a Cookeville police officer shot an innocent family's pet dog...' Police who stopped the car had also just received a teletype with the heading 'Recent Robbery.' [The Tennessean] (Okay, they were misled into making a felony stop, but they still blew away a little, tail wagging dog... ) (I'm having a hard time with this; a few years ago, my West Coast cousin was blown away by police, but there was no video to record it... oh well, just another misunderstanding.)

Jeff Cheney posted a note congratulating Dog News on its placement on the all-time most-read list. Hmmm... I think he passed Dog News again on Monday anyway. That's great, but  we know why most of you are here.   Each day, the referer log turn up some very strange searches which lead people to this site... I've come to the humbling conclusion that an awful lot of you are...

a) sick puppies
b) not here on purpose

Cheney's generous programming resources and macros for Radiolanders are one reason I've been visiting his weblog since early last year. Being a dog person, I couldn't figure them all out, even though perfectly explained. When I wrote to him, he took the time to write back with more instructions (and this was waaay before anyone ever heard of us).  I think Jeff's working for Radioland now... If you're using Radioland, and you haven't delved into providing automated web services, check out Jeff's stuff. It's amazing.... [Jeff's Radio Weblog] (He's funny too... hey, he's writing about 'dog humping' and how it's a dominance issue. )

Over twenty workers rescue pit bull from river NJ Somebody flung a pit bull into the icy Great Falls river just twenty yards from the 'thundering falls.'  A concerned citizen called for help and a well-coordinated rescue sprang into action: 'Soon, more than 20 rescue workers from the Paterson police and fire departments and the Passaic County Sheriff's Department swung into action. As night fell, they set up lights to keep tabs on the animal from a bridge 75 feet above and anchored ropes for rappelling if the river rescue failed.'
