Our dog has had two total hip replacements to eliminate severe hip dysplasia which was caused by progressive osteoarthritis. He never complained about his pain and we didn't fully understand how bad his pain was until he received treatment for it. Until he could receive surgery, he was placed on Adequan shots twice weekly for four weeks and then twice monthly. He also received Rimadyl when he clearly couldn't walk. All drugs have some risk; it is hoped that this new drug Deramaxx may be used long-term in dogs who are not good candidates for surgery.
