Police dog locates meth lab in apartment building IN Baron, a drug detection dog which joined the Shelbyville police department in March 2002, alerted police to a dangerous methamphetamine lab operating out of an apartment building complex in Shelbyville:

'...the lab contained sufficient explosive chemicals to blow the north end off the building. But even without an explosion, methamphetamine labs are very dangerous...' [Shelbyville News]

Police charge man with killing family's tiny poodle...  MD Columbia, Maryland, animal control officers say a man threw his tiny six-pound poodle against a wall after it urinated on a carpet...
'Police say a man's wife called 911 on March 31st to report that her six-pound poodle had been severely injured. The dog was pronounced dead on arrival at the Emergency Veterinarian Clinic in Catonsville.  A necropsy report indicated that the dog's injuries were consistent with it having been thrown against the wall...' Doggie double standards:  dog fouling fine £1000 on left of road, £20 on its right UK Some dogs may not know their left paw from their right paw, but dog owners in Yorkshire will definitely know which side is which if they break a fouled-up dog law:

'Dog lovers have been careful to stick to the right-hand side of Westfield Road as they face a fine of just £20 if their dog is caught short. Dog urine corroded lamp post kills pedestrian; study commissioned UK When a pedestrian was killed by a falling lamp post, an investigation revealed the cause: dog urine had corroded its base. In response, Derbyshire County Council commissioned a survey costing £75,000 to monitor and study the problem. The council will inspect one million lampposts in Derbyshire to determine if dog urine has corroded their metal bases. 'If it wasn't so serious it would be funny...' [BBCi] (hmmm...  maybe they'll recommend restricting dogs from urinating on lamp posts. )

Holy Cr*p! Google Safe Search excludes useful dog sites...  Google provides a 'safe search' feature which attempts to exclude pornographic sites and sites not suitable for family viewing. However, when I tested the site (via Harvard 'Greplaw's' Safe Search Url from Benjamin Edelman), I was dismayed to find that some very useful and family friendly dog sites were excluded. If you manage a web site, you owe it to yourself to test your site's url and some key words.  What a howl...
