Steel traps: silent landmines to dogs and other animals Steel traps always maim the animals they catch. One in four animals chew their own foot off to get out of them. Animals usually suffer for days from their injuries before dying. This story about a dog rescued from a steel trap is the exception to such a fate; even so, the dog's foot had to be amputated...

'Dogs should not be left unsupervised. You should know where a dog is at all times. Dogs, just like human beings who get locked up for no reason, will get mean and bitter...' [Vancouver Sun] Related: Pit bull owner challenges law that defines breed as vicious A pit bull owner argues against the Ohio Revised Code 'which classifies all pit bulls as vicious dogs...' Gently saying goodbye Manhattan veterinarian Deb Mangelsdorf arranges for her clients' pets to convalesce in a garden paradise of flowering plants and lush ferns and to experience a soothing atmosphere for those last few days on earth:

"In the days leading up to a euthanasia, people who have had a close connection with their animal gradually seem to make the transition from 'Well, how's the dog doing?' to spending their last couple of days with the animal.... Generally, they'll say something like 'This is great that Toby has spent his final days in this kind of floral experience.'
