One minute you're sitting in your chair taking it easy, the next you're rushing your dog to a veterinary emergency room....

Note to self: never, ever open the lazy boy chair (with folding leg rests) again; and never close it again. One of the dogs got caught in it (a sad reward for affectionate proximity) when I stood up and the chair snapped shut. She yipped and I cringed in horror. She got crunched (somewhere ... I don't know where, because I didn't see it). So we rushed off to an emergency vet (on Sunday, no less).

Of course, she was walking on three legs, and then, naturally, out of 'can-do' determination, she decided to walk on four legs when the vet observed her... (oh brother). When she got home, she returned to the three-legged routine. He said she probably got very bruised and nothing more.

She was a gimpy dog with a limp. That was yesterday.

Now, she's a gimpier dog with a wobble. Both back legs are wobbly. After consulting with her regular vet's office, we decide to wait overnight (tonight) and see if she improves. Otherwise, I pack her up and take her in for x-rays... She still trusts us. She's sprawled out under my feet (again) and oblivious to everything... I promise... this will never happen again.

The irony is that we dog-proofed our house.... our dogs don't have peripheral vision due to their big furry cheeks which obscures side-vision. So I padded all the sharp edged furniture and moved edges away from their path. And we have runners strategically placed everywhere so the dogs won't slip...

Of course, a  dog emergency room visit wouldn't be complete without a spouse emergency room visit. When you drill and saw wood (treated for outdoor use), it's a good idea to wipe your forehead off before showering... as we found out. A splinter in the eye is extremely painful... but that's another story....
