It still amazes me what a completely new paradigm the Web is and is
evolving into, and how little people understand it. I don't have a
thorough understanding of all of the chemistry and biology and physics
involved, but I feel as if my anthropology training has given me a
better picture than most of the whole system, and the potential
cultural and business ramifications. There are pieces of every Web site
we've done that make me want to shout for joy, when the client gets
something, and pieces that make me want to cry.
I was thinking last night about what a civilized and sublime game
baseball is. And today, out on the golf course, finally hitting the
ball well when I reminded myself to let the club do the work, which
also made me think of the fact that a good stroke maximizes your energy
efficiency, on all levels - the mechanics of hitting the ball,
directing it to a desired location, thereby reducing the number of
strokes and walking and environmental damage, and that practicing on
the driving range is about finding that place consistently, and Pujols
almost constant contact with the ball, and how even running and
swimming are analagous - with the amount of time spent in cardio
vascular activities improving the efficiency, rather than muscling
through exercise. I think I may be able to use this notion when I'm
able to start running again, to let my body find its maximum return.
I was also thinking of how civilized and sublime the concept of using
the physics that might otherwise be used for weapons or actual dominion
applied to games, that how wonderful it would be to have export of
democracy through games, and the communiy infrastructure that develop
around them, rather than militarily, which still seems oxymoronic.
