Power came back on our section of the grid just as I pulled up to the
house. I watched the street lamps start to glow, and then saw Heather
and Tim's porch lights pop on as a car passed, which made me wonder why
they had motion sensors with a range that caught passing cars, until I
realized that A - the power was back on, and that B their porch lights
just happened to turn on at that moment.
I'm sorry, but there is something incredibly comforting for me about
electricity, and empires that allow us to sleep in relative comfort. I
don't have to worry about bandits robbing my car, just because the
lights have gone out. We got to raid the market deli case and freezer
tonight when the restaurant power went out. It made me understand what
a thrill it must be to loot.
