If abusing Iraqi prisoners was just like fraternity hazing, does this mean that it's all over? That our support of the despot doujour that helped establish Saddam Hussein in the region, that our brutally failed and miscommunicated diplomacy that led to Desert Slaughter under "41," that our straw dog of a war this time around was all just a joke?

Ha-ha.

Welcome to the G-7?

Brother?

I was thinking as I was driving home that I feel as if I am part of an occupied country here, after hearing what Rush Limbaugh said of the Iraqi prisoner abuse - that it was like fraternity hazing. I just can't believe that any decent human being could buy into that - it's like we're being ruled by an adolescent mentality, people who do not want to take responsibility for the pain we cause as a nation, which is in turn egging on their base of stupid white men who don't want to take responsibility for anything. At least with Hitler's brown shirts these were thuggish folks who'd been beaten down by the economy. These are thuggish brutes who are functioning completely from a place of irrational fear of losing out to poorer people, or recognizing the idea that their own comfort may not be entirely justified in the face of overwhelming poverty elsewhere, or, ultimately, that material comforts are a vain substitute for true enlightenment.
