You mean this might be the right occupation after all?

Occupational Outlook for U.S. Technical Writers. Wondering what the future holds for technical writers and other content creators? Then take a gander at the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook. According to government analysts, "opportunities should be best for technical writers and those with training in a specialized field. Demand for technical writers and writers with expertise in areas such as law, medicine,... [The Content Wrangler]

Considering some of the jobs that US News and World Report (March 20, 2006 issue) believes to be up-and-coming—accountant, truck driver, hazardous materials removal specialist, auto mechanic, farm manager—I thing tech comm is a pretty good choice. Nice to know it has a future.

Worthy of note: the BLS quotes data from the STC salary survey in its report on the outlook for technical writing.
