"Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it."

8:06:33 PM    Questions? Comments? Flames? []

There's a certain amount of increasing buzz in my part of the world (virtual more than physical) around the future of technical communication, including the formats for distributing information. We're talking wikis, blogs, podcasts, video as supplements or replacements the traditional for dead-tree format. Now come the results of a survey over in O'Reilly-land examining attitudes about such options:

Results of survey: why people write online documentation. By Andy Oram.  Several months ago, Tim pointed here to a survey on the O'Reilly Network asking why people contribute to online forums, wikis, and other technical documentation. We got 354 responses. Now see the results and my analysis. [O'Reilly Radar]

I haven't read through the entire report, nor the related previous discussion, but it looks interesting. Note that the discussion takes place in the ONLamp.com section of the O'Reilly Network, which focuses on open-source topics (LAMP = Linux-Apache-MySQL-Perl/PHP).
