Randy Newman loves L.A. So do I. So does prototypical mid-westerner Garrison Keillor:
I grew up in suburbs of L.A., spent 23 years there. Got my M.A. at UCLA. Went to concerts at the Long Beach Arena, Santa Monica Civic (Jethro Tull), Arlo Guthrie at Hollywood Bowl. Saw Hair at the Palladium. Saw The Beatles at Dodger Stadium in Chavez Ravine. Saw The Who at Anaheim Stadium. Brewer & Shipley at the Whiskey. Buffalo Springfield at my high school! La Brea Tar Pits; L.A. County Museum of Natural History; Mulholland Boulevard. Sunset Boulevard. UCLA, USC, Caltech. And on and on and on. . . L.A. is a great city. You can find anything and anyone there.
I left L.A. 32 years ago, expecting to return within two years. Didn't happen, but I still consider it my home town. Too bad it doesn't have a pro football team.

The new editors-in-chief of ACM <interactions>, Richard Anderson and Jon Kolko, have picked up the challenge of moving the magazine forward under their vision:
Already at work as Incoming Editors-in-Chief of "interactions" magazine. Recently, Jon Kolko and I were appointed the next Editors-in-Chief of interactions magazine. . . Though our first issue will not appear until January 2008, we have been working on fleshing out our vision for the publication, reconceptualizing the editorial board and structure, extending invitations of participation, meeting editorial and design staff, developing a strategy for a web presence, and much more. . . [ Riander Blog] I've had my fun writing a regular column for the magazine. Now, if any of you out there think you have something to say, contact Jon and Richard and make your pitch. I expect them to do a great job, but it takes support from many, many contributors to make the magazine work.
