Kos: "There is a clear liberal/conservative divide in technology usage. You can find the data at any weblog with a public sitemeter, and the stats seem to hold true across the board. Liberals are more likely to use non-Microsoft products."

If there is economic value on the long tail, how do small local blogs get paid? A conversation started here.

Mrs. Cone has decamped for Art Basel to hobnob with the swells, leaving me to figure out how to be at a horseshow and a basketball practice at the same time tomorrow morning. So I did what any self-respecting man would do: I called my mommy, who cheerfully agreed to drive Syd to the barn. Now the little dears just need to make the house spotless before Lisa returns, like the little cats A-Z in The Cat in the Hat.

John Robinson addresses fears by some bloggers that the N&R is going to bigfoot the local alt-media. "We don't want to conquer," he says.

This is where JR really gets the new model: he's willing to think out loud, to publish in beta. Very untraditional, very encouraging. JR: "I hear the concerns, I really do. I don't know the right model. Our vision isn't far enough along to answer many of your questions. We're experimenting and learning like everyone else. But as I look ahead, I don't think it is possible for us or any other media company to control/dominate/crush the citizen media."

He's right about the last part. We control our own sites. That's what this is all about, and has been about all along. Local bloggers who have never made a dime, or had a real prospect of making any money from their blogs, need to relax and keep creating their own good work.
