Comment On McLuhan
It's a theory of mine, partly inspired by Nicholas Negroponte's 1995 book, Being Digital, that as media becomes digitized, McLuhan's idea is no longer appropriate.
Digital means 1's and 0's - bits - as in Claude Shannon's information theory. With the promise of digital convergence - audio, video, print, etc. all having a common bond in "bits", a transformation has ocurred. It stands to reason that McLuhan's concepts need to be re-examined in the context of the digital delivery of media. - Gary Santoro
