Refresher Post: Expressionist Fab Culture Via CinemaMinima.com
2004 will be the Year of EXPRESSIONIST FAB CULTURE. What is Expressionist Fab Culture, or EFC? Expressionist Fab Culture is most definitely a type of Pop Culture, though it can work both above and below Pop. This new æsthetic trend is said to embody what is enduring, internal, and eternal much like the German Expressionism of the early Twentieth century. Expressionist Fab is the offspring digital technology and communications; much of it could not have developed without the public Internet. It is found both online and offline. Expressionist Fab is a culture decentralized and then recentralized. Then it is re-decentralized and then perhaps centralized There is without question an element of absurdist humor. Mediaburn looks forward to covering the development of this phenomenon in the weeks and months ahead. [The Mediaburn Radio Weblog] [cinema minima]

Iowa: Des Moines, Ames, Ankeny, and Urbandale
From the Road: Des Moines, Iowa.

We've had another great day in Iowa! It's really buzzing out here. Today I ran into Dean supporters from all corners of the country - Vermont, California, and Texas - who are in Iowa to help in the final weeks. (Seeing these people out of context actually got me a little confused as to where I was!). They are doing a great job! Some are working in the office calling possible supporters and others are braving the weather (it's actually quite balmy out here right now) to knock on doors.

The Gov visited four towns today: Des Moines, Ames, Ankeny, and Urbandale. He took part in a candidate forum, two house parties, and three town meetings.

The highlight of the day was a visit to Stella's Blue Sky Diner in Urbandale. Proving that he will do whatever it takes to get a vote the Gov took part in a Stella's custom. Stella's is famous for it's milk shakes. The catch is when you order a shake you have to hold the glass on the top of your head and let the server pour the shake into the glass from about 4 feet above you. The Gov was a little bit nervous - we told him not to worry because strawberry shake would make his hair shiny - but in front of hundreds of people he held the glass on the top of his head and let the shake pour in! It was a classic campaign moment and luckily I got the whole thing on my video camera. (It's sort of Howard Dean meets Fear Factor!).

Thanks to all the hard workers we saw today. Tomorrow we're off to Michigan, Wisconsin and then South Carolina. But don't worry Iowa, we'll be back for more milk shakes on Friday!
