Hey racism is A-OK as long as it's for their own good. How is it that we can elect politicians who are this stupid and short-sighted? And how can they stay in office? There are places in America where it isn't safe for white people or black people or gay people to be but we don't round them all up and inter them. . . This guy is clearly off his rocker and I can easily see this becoming the next Trent Lott episode. . .at least I hope it does, I think this is just as asinine a comment as Lott's was. . . How you can ever posit that rounding up people of a particular skin color and putting them in interment camps as a good idea is beyond me. . .(via Ed Cone) UPDATE: Here's the NY Times story, still short but with a comment from the national executive director of the Japanese American Citizens League. This Coble guy is a newly appointed chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security meaning he has some semblance of power regarding crime, terrorism and homeland security. . . He disagrees with a caller on the radio show he's doing an interview for that we should round up Arabs like we did the Japanese but he thinks that it was for their own good and that while most of them were good citizens, some were bad people (just like those Arabs) and so he (Coble) agreed with Roosevelt's decision. . .Arghhh!!!. . .that's true of every segment of every population on the planet. . .ugh. . .then this is the freaking kicker:
Clearly as a nation we're more tolerant, but our elected officials (see Lott and now Coble who are the ones with power to do really stupid things) aren't so open-minded. . .it terrifies me that this guy is the chairman of anything short of the Committee for Orphans and Morons, much less a new subcommittee on crime, terror and homeland security. . .good grief. . . PS: You might remember Coble as the guy who co-sponsored a bill with Berman (who just so happens to be in the pocket of all the Hollywood studios probably) on limiting fair use for consumers of digital media. Read about it here, the actual bill here, and a good CNET article here. Basically, the bill would let copyright holders hack into your computer pretty much any time they damn well pleased when they thought you were violating copyright law. . .anyone else see the common thought process that seems to run rampant like a bad case of herpes through Coble's mind? Screw the individual's rights, let's do what's best for the industry or the government or whatever other entity is powerful at the moment. . again I say "ugh.". . . 4:05:20 AM ![]() |
Insomnia sucks. . .I've been up every night this week at 4 or 5. . .grrrr. . .not sure it's chronic though which is part of the definition. . .mine goes away, then comes back . . .eating a box of mac and cheese 30 minutes before I went to sleep was probably a bad idea too . . . 3:53:31 AM ![]() |
