An interesting post covering Paul Berman's article in Salon dealing with the chance of the Dems beating Bush in the 2004 election. . .regardless of what they say, I find it most revealing that given the fact that Bush is hardly a bulletproof target, the Dems really haven't made any inroads on unseating him in '04. . . What this says to me is that the Dems are twice as rudderless as the GOP and that they can't seem to comprehend that attacking what Bush is doing without offering anything that can possibly be construed as a viable alternative will never get them the votes necessary. . .Berman has an interesting idea about being even more hawkish than Bush but I don't think this will ever work since half of what the Dems are currently standing on is their vehement disagreement with Bush on how to treat Iraq, Iran, and terror in general. . . So assuming that they can't go hawkish all of a sudden and get anywhere with it, appealing to the poor seems hardly likely to win them an election since I really can't believe that the poor, disadvantaged types get out and vote in large numbers. . .The Dems really don't seem to have a coherent strategy for defeating Bush in '04. . .and short of Bush deciding not to run, I really don't forsee any hopes for the Democratic Party to hold the most powerful office in the world anytime soon. . .
And when the Greens start siphoning off the disillusioned and disaffected, the Dems just really don't have a chance. . . |
