One of the really major things that I hate about Radio, the tool I use to publish this blog, is that whenever anything breaks, you have to delete the original file, move to a different location, and then move it back again to fix the problem. For example, over the past couple of days, my blogroll has been broken. Nevermind that the OPML file being used was perfectly valid, Radio thought it wasn't. In order for me to fix it, I had to create a new folder in my "gems" folder, move my blogroll.opml in there and modify my Item template before Radio recognized it as a valid OPML file. It's pretty damn frustrating. On top of that, I still have a major beef with the whole category thing where apparently, my category template is different from my other templates. So to fix that, I have to manually update the Home template for each category so that the site is consistent. Part of the beauty of a content management system is that everything is consistent unless you tell it not to be. This seems to be a major failing in Radio. On top of all that, my trackback doesn't seem to be working on the outbound links (links I link to don't show me as a trackback item). Any and all of this could be user error but I don't think so. And the paucity of help (unlike CityDesk which has a great help system - a must if you're seriously targeting people who just want to publish and not muck with the details) is a huge drawback. Right now, I'm really leaning towards going with CityDesk in June when my license for Radio is up. |
