Wednesday, October 02, 2002There are four lightscomment []
I'm not sure what Mark means by this metaphor. Perhaps it is an obscure reference to an episode of STNG, where Picard is under extreme mental duress, starved and punished until he claims to see five lights when there are only four. I don't recall all the details of this episode, but it does seem to me that Picard's parting words to his torturer were, "There ... are ... four ... lights." Consider it linked.
There are four lights. One year ago today, my (now former) manager told me to shut down my weblog and remove all traces of it from my server. (91 words) [ Source: dive into mark] prefs.txt not found IrradicatedThank you, thank you, thank you! And it's about time...
system.verbs.builtins.radio.weblog.getUrlForPost changed on Wed, 02 Oct 2002 21:18:17 GMT: Pass in true for flCreateFolders when calling radio.weblog.file.getArchiveFilePath, to ensure that folders on the path to the post exist. This should fix the "#prefs.txt not found" bug when creating the first titled post of the month. [ Source: Radio.root Updates] Real Numbers on Record Companies and ArtistsI'm pleased to see some real numbers emerging on the practices the RIAA and MPAA use in dealing with artists. If they will treat heavy-hitters like Henley this way, imagine how they shaft lesser known and less powerful artists. If we could get as much media coverage on this as they want to put on P2P software I suspect the public outcry against these folks would get even louder.
Record industry defends practices to Senate. The Joint Hearing of the Senate Committee and Senate Select Committee on the Entertainment Industry is underway in LA, investigating artists' claims that the labels engage in unfair and corrupt business-practices. The first day's findings at the hearings are really quite remarkable:
