100 things about me

"A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful that God has implanted in the human soul." - Goethe

Only in California...

Fifty Women Pose Nude to Protest War
AP | 11/16/02

POINT REYES STATION, Calif., Nov 16, 2002 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- Some women are baring it all to protest the possibility of war in Iraq.

Fifty women in California took off all their clothes earlier this week and spelled out the word "peace" on a baseball field just north of San Francisco.

Seventy-two-year-old artist Donna Sheehan said she organized the protest to convey the desperation that she and other women feel about going to war.

She called her friends, and they called their friends - and soon they were ready to pose for a local photographer.

The women aren't exactly sure what to do with the picture.

They've all signed documents allowing their images to be sold, with proceeds going to the peace movement.

The Tennessee coneflower is back

By ANNE PAINE
Staff Writer

After more than 20 years of conservation efforts, the pink-purple flowering plant once near extinction is growing and reproducing on its own in several locations within a few miles of Long Hunter State Park.

The state asked the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service yesterday in a ceremony at the park to upgrade the status of the coneflower — found nowhere else in the world — or even remove it entirely from the federal list of endangered and threatened species.

''This is how the Endangered Species Act is supposed to work,'' Justin Wilson, policy deputy to Gov. Don Sundquist, said with a grin. ''This is great.'' FULL STORY

Feelin' groovy

Things are groovy right now.  Managed to revise the antiques/collectibles category page without too much hassle, and I'm extremely pleased with the way it looks.  Scott suggested adding the picture he took of the inside of the old clock, and it looks so nice on the page.  Lots of updates to my templates today - removed some radio buttons I didn't need, added a couple of webrings (The Ageless Project and EatonWeb).  Also, I removed the Driftwood and Strictly Southern category pages.  Never had much time to fool with them and they were just taking up space on the main blog page.  I've been trying to add a "home" button gif on the Antiques page, but for some reason Radio isn't uploading it.

Heard back from the winning bidder on the clock.  We figured the shipping charges and started packing it this afternoon.  Sure hope the guy is happy with it - it's a beautiful piece.  The telephone sold! For $35.50!  Blew my mind.  Hope to hear from that bidder over the weekend.  The Nove Rose pitcher got another hit, and I've still got a couple days left on Ebay for it.  Some other pieces aren't selling, but things are looking up.  I keep digging around the house for items to list.  Scott and I will probably take more pictures and put a few more items up for sale tomorrow.

Cold, rainy and grey out again today.  I heard snow mentioned for tonight, but it's been so warm lately, I'm sure nothing would stick to the ground just now.  I love snow!  Bring it on!!

Cheers for now.
