"Buy Nothing Day"Seems Adbusters has declared November 29 "Buy Nothing Day". Now I have nothing against advocating such causes, but they're talking about the biggest shopping day of the year. The official start of the Christmas season, the unofficial "other" Thanksgiving day, the day I've spent year after year fighting mall mobs in the big city of Nashville searching for the world's greatest sale... Sorry, folks, but my Walmart sale paper arrived in the mail yesterday, and it just so happens that on November 29, during their "one day only" sale, there is a vacuum cleaner priced for $35. Someone in my family NEEDS that vacuum cleaner. And I am even contemplating pulling into the Walmart parking lot by 6:30 AM on November 29. Because I don't want a raincheck, I don't want a different vacuum cleaner, I don't want to pay an additional $50 for something I know is a piece of junk before I buy it. I have calculated what can be spent on the family this year. And if shopping on November 29 will help save a little money so I can buy even MORE items on November 29, well...so be it. Adbusters has high expectations. They'd like to see "Buy Nothing Day" become global. Their philosophy, and I quote: "Over consumption is mother of all our environmental problems." Uh huh. I'm a mother, too. In the future, if on November 29 our home runs out of kitty litter, feminine hygeine products, Listerene, coffee and/or coffee filters, toilet paper or beer, I'll be the first one standing in the checkout lane. Because there are some things in life that are unequivocally necessary. Cheers :) 7:03:42 PM ![]()

New findsWanna see what URL's are linked to yours? Go to Technorati. Very cool. I've never seen this before, and can't remember even how I found it, but I've spent the last 30 minutes tooling around the site. Did you know Barbie has a weblog? Cute. Love the webcam... 6:41:36 PM ![]()

E-mail virus insults its victims. Known as Winevar, the computer worm arrives in e-mail as an attachment that infects PCs when opened and displays a dialog box saying, "What a foolish thing you have done!" [CNET News.com] 6:01:24 PM ![]()
