I was surprised not to have previously heard of an Australian project underway since the mid 1990's to create QuickTime broadcast software that runs on multiple platforms. The software is called "uplink" from Abstract Plane, and v1.0 was released recently. The product description says "uplink enables simple, cost-effective streaming of QuickTime video and audio from standard computer hardware running Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X." It has an introductory price of US$425 until May 31.
Apple's QuickTime Broadcaster (recently updated to v1.01) is free, but only runs on Mac OS X Server.

Purpose |
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
