The other day Warner Brothers released a 100MB QuickTime trailer for the movie Matrix Reloaded (select the Ultra 1000x540 option). This is an incredibly well-done trailer -- as they say, probably the highest resolution trailer available anywhere. Warner Brothers had over 1.5M downloads of the Ultra trailer, and their server has seen 40 terabytes of download traffic in just a few days.
Where's the VR angle? Well the Matrix and this sequel postulate a world where everyone "lives" in virtual reality; but instead of using VR goggles and gloves, people's brains are wired directly into "the Matrix", a giant computer grid. The experience is so realistic that almost no one realizes that it's all a sham and their real bodies are on life-support in so many warehouses.
But there's another VR angle: Warner Brothers has posted some VR's of the set. The direct link to the VRs is at http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/cmp/rl_qtvr_index.html, although that strips the full website frame away. To get the full spectrum of content, visit the main entry into the official movie site; and then to view the VRs, either go to the site map (blueprint button), or click on the third from the top-left little monitor screen in the "RELOADED" panel at the top.

Purpose |
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
