The focus of VRlog has long extended into news about QuickTime, digital cameras, new virtual reality uses, and so on. The main reason is that as a panoramic photographer myself, I find many of these items relevant and interesting. Another reason is that some of the other sites which covered QuickTime have seemingly faded out. Lastly, the pace of events in the VR world is glacial compared to other fields (I don't mean people are not photographing VR scenes, but that new products and companies are few and far between -- when was the last time a truly new stitcher came out? or Apple added new features to QuickTime VR? The fact that many people still use QuickTime Authoring Studio v1.01 or some version of PT dating back years is telling).

Tivo For Your iPod: " See that fellow with the telltale white iPod wires dangling from his ears? It would be reasonable to assume that he's rocking out to his favorite tunes on his MP3 player. Reasonable, but quite possibly wrong. He might be enjoying a recent podcast. By Brian Braiker, Newsweek "

Wired Puppet | interactive quicktime VR QTVR by spin2see: "Make the wired "puppets" dance or play guitar in time with the music (or choose your own). We originally shot these puppets for our kids but had such positive reaction from friends that we made the concept into a mini site. ...we've been amazed at the popularity."

Just Say "No" to Brightness and Contrast in Photoshop: "Speaking in terms of 8-bits per channel, there are 256 possible brightness values available for use, ranging from black on one end to white on the other. Many times, images straight out of the camera or from the scanner lack contrast or are underexposed and don't make use of this full range. New Photoshop users often try to remedy these problems by using the Brightness and Contrast controls on the Image Adjustments menu. Resist the temptation though. Just say "no" to Brightness and Contrast...."

Purpose |
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
