ohnosecond n. the short period of time during which you realize that you will be hitting the key that sends email to the wrong person or deletes a month's worth of work. An ohnosecond is faster than the time required for your brain to successfully stop your finger.

I heard this several times over the years, but the first time (and possibly the coining) was in a talk by a friend in the mid 80s...

The NY Times Science section has an interesting piece on man's interaction with nature. On the right side of the page a multimedia section appears with some interesting numbers - particularly energy consumption and the world diet.
