As libraries, we keep track of how much funding comes from taxpayers or are parent institution.  But how much of library funding comes from community partnerships or private contributions?

Privacy and political candidates:

 

The Mercury News ran a op-ed piece, entitled Internet can level the political playing field”.  But this opinion piece is really about how it is okay for political candidates to spam potential voters.  The Privacy Digest has commented on it at length.

iGive supports charities:

iGive is a e-mall that gives a percentage of the proceeds from web sales made through the mall to charities registered with the mall.  CLS has been a registered charity with iGive since March 2000.

Copyright Talk from the Guru:

"Lawrence Lessig. Now has his own weblog." [Privacy Digest]

Lawrence Lessig recently wrote a book on copyright entitled The Future of Ideas: The Fate of the Commons in a Connected World.   He is also highly involved in the Creative Commons project, which allows content creators to identify their works with the varying levels of copyright protection in such a way that makes them easily sharable by others.

A movement towards paperless libraries?:

The Bookless Library, Continued [LISNews.com]

We'll see more news items like the one above and this one that was in Wired a few weeks ago about the West Des Moines campus of the Des Moines Area Community College move to a paperless campus and library.  Looks like a trend to watch.
