Park Ridge Library and the November ballot:

Library issues will be on the ballot in Park Ridge, Illinois.  Area residents collected signatures on three separate petition questions including the construction of a more modern library building, according to this article in the Park Ridge Herald Advocate, a Pioneer Press newspaper.

Leave no public library behind:

This Christian Science Monitor article ran in the commentary section on August 23.  It focuses on the good that public libraries have accomplished, particularly those in New York. 

Thanks Joel! Articles like this one really help to let people know what libraries do for everyone in the United States.

Gerry McKiernan announced today the availability of his PowerPoint presentation prepared for NASIG 2002 Transforming Serials: The Revolution Continues.  His presentation concerns how librarians can deal with embedded media in electronic journals to make them more accessible to patrons.

An argument for privatizing libraries:

Lew Rockwell, president of the Ludwig von Mises Institute and vice president of The Center for Libertarian Studies, has written this editorial on why he thinks libraries should be privatized.   It is getting some attention in light of the rural Washington anti-library tax crusade, with mentions on library discussion lists and Library Stuff.
