The iMac Is Back!
Rising from the dead, the iMac DV that was my home server is back in business. I resolved today to take it to the recycling center, but I couldn't resist one more stab.
I disassembled the beast and reconnected some of the internal monitor's
main power and video plugs. I had removed them, hoping to trick
it into always using the external display. Insert long story here.
Next, I installed the 40GB drive from my TiVo. I had upgraded the
TiVo to 120GB (35 hours at Best Quality--yahoo!) and the 40GB was lying
around, waiting for an opportunity to shine. The 512MB RAM stick
had been sitting on my desk at work looking for a home, too. With
a quick snap, it was in place. Plug it in, cross my fingers, say
a silent prayer and hit the power button.
Chime!
Good. I grabbed a MacOS 9 install CD and it's installing
now. I formatted the drive in two partitions: 10 GB and
30GB. I'm thinking it will go back to being a home server:
running Radio, online backup of the Main machine, photo storage, etc.
Ahh...just rebooted. Smiling Mac loves me.
