-- Comment() Google and the Visible Web: "Do weblogs get too much Google presence compared with so-called "authoritative" sources, i.e. professional writing? Clearly they get more when professional media companies lock their stories behind pay-per-view firewalls, and it would be ludicrous for media companies to complain about it." [Dan Gillmor's eJournal]

-- Comment() Gurteen Knowledge-Log writes: "People are people - not things! This morning I received a management development guide through my door. I flicked through it and came to rest at the Human Resources section. And I shivered. No nothing unusual. In fact more of the same! What made me shiver was the language used to describe people."

-- Comment() Why Scripting Languages Matter: "Unlike applications from the previous paradigm, web applications are not released in one to three year cycles. They are updated every day, sometimes every hour. Rather than being finished paintings, they are sketches." [ranchero.com]

-- Comment() DataGrid, Prototype of a Biomedical Grid: "The first biomedical applications deployed inside the project demonstrate the relevance of the grid paradigm for genomics and medical image processing. They also highlight the specific requirements of the biomedical community." [nodalpoint.org - A bioinformatics weblog]

-- Comment() Beyond 100 genomes: "By the end of 2002, we witnessed the landmark submission of the 100th complete genome sequence in the databases. An overview of these genomes reveals certain interesting trends and provides valuable insights into possible future developments." [nodalpoint.org - A bioinformatics weblog]

-- Comment() Informatics United: "Medical informatics, neuroinformatics and bioinformatics provide a wide spectrum of research. Here, we show the great potential of synergies between these research areas on the basis of four exemplary studies where techniques are transferred from one of the disciplines to the other. [...] Each of the three different disciplines have delivered technologies that are readily applicable in the other disciplines. The mutual transfer of knowledge and techniques proved to increase efficiency and accuracy in a manifold of applications. In particular, we expect that clinical decision support systems based on techniques derived from neuro- and bioinformatics have the potential to improve medical diagnostics and will finally lead to a personalized delivery of healthcare." [nodalpoint.org - A bioinformatics weblog]

-- Comment() Reflections on an Arranged Marriage between Bioinformatics and Health Informatics: "Many deep issues currently inhibit the recognition and funding of research in health and bioinformatics in Canada and elsewhere. Some of these issues are common to both health and bioinformatics. The overlap in prevailing definitions, research concerns and methodological content in the respective domains suggest that common research needs should be better identified and reinforced for the benefit of both." [nodalpoint.org - A bioinformatics weblog]

-- Comment() SCO Warning Fuels Growing Linux Controversy: "By sending a letter to some 1,500 corporations warning them of potential legal liabilities arising from Linux use, SCO Group has cast a cloud on the future of Linux itself, industry observers say. Yet SCO contends that its actions are necessary to protect its intellectual-property rights." [osOpinion]

Pondering Canon Digital Ixus 400 -- Comment() I'm thinking about investing in a digital camera. Currently Digital Ixus 400 by Canon (also known as S400) seems the most competent choice. However, for the same price you can get a PowerShot S45 (or S50, depending on the discount). Should I got for the small camera, or for the more feature-rich one?
