[Item Permalink] Thinking about Canon Digital Ixus 400 -- Comment()
Matt Croydon at Postneo.com sent e-mail on my hesitation between the different digital cameras by Canon. It was nice to get insightful feedback 'from a camera geek'. I'm all but convinced that Canon Digital Ixus 400 is the camera for me, dispite some weak points, for example the limited amount of zoom positions.

Here are pointers to some reviews of the Digital Ixus 400 (PowerShot S400) for the interested:

[Item Permalink] Publishing books in PDF on the net -- Comment()
I have started planning and editing the third edition of the textbook 'Solving optimization problems' (written in Finnish, Optimointitehtävien ratkaiseminen, Juha Haataja, 1995, 232 pages). This book is currently not available on the net. So, I'll prepare a PDF version for the net at the same time.

When I started to publish books in PDF on the net in addition to the printed books, I was worried that there would not be demand for the printed version. It has turned out that having the full text of the book available on the net increases the demand of the printed version. Good examples are the books on Fortran 90/95 and numerical methods (both in Finnish), which have been reasonably popular for several years now. And having a PDF version of a book for presentation helps when you don't have a printed version with you. But I must also add that often people decide to buy a book when they have a printed copy in their hands.
