[Item Permalink] A six-fold increase in malware -- Comment()
Virus writers seek cash from chaos: "Last month Trend Micro, the anti-virus firm, recorded a six-fold increase in malware compared to September 2003. It detected 1,485 new items of malware last month, compared to 250 new types of malicious code in the same period last year."

[Item Permalink] Podcasts for self-important people -- Comment()
Ssp commented podcasts: "To me this looks like the self-importante people being - surprise! - self-important once more. Not only does their website give no useful information on why or how this should be good or interesting - it's just full of RSS brouwhaha - I also see! to fail how this is supposed to be new or even 'revolutionary'. After all someone even hacked together an AppleScript that automagically puts arbitrary (English) text RSS feeds on your iPod. And that must've been a year ago."

[Item Permalink] Penalty tax for computers -- Comment()
There has been some discussion in Finland about giving tax cuts for buying a computer or a broadband connection at home. I think this is a stupid idea, and thus wrote a net column suggesting a penalty tax for computers due to the harm they cause (Haittavero tietokoneille, verohelpotuksia tietoturvaan).

The size of the tax could depand on the amount of available malware for each computer/operating system. This idea was not so great according to the feedback I received.
