The Brains Behind AI: "Stanford University computer scientist Daphne Koller recently earned a $500,000 MacArthur Fellowship on the strength of her work with solving basic machine learning problems and investigating intelligence fundamentals, an effort that is significantly expanding the scientific knowledge needed to construct computer programs capable of effective learning and intelligent reasoning. [...] [She is] currently focusing on using computer modeling to iron out the interplay between genes, proteins, and other cellular operations. The knowledge of cell functions gleaned from such research could lead to breakthroughs in cancer research."
