A bluetooth headset for mobile phone and PowerBook? -- Comment() I plan to get a Nokia 9500 Communicator to replace my Nokia 6800. I started to think about Bluetooth headsets - could it be possible to use the same headset with the phone and my PowerBook? Then I could do videoconferencing and speak on the phone using the same setup. But I'm not sure if this is possible. One possibility is the i-PHONO BT420 Bluetooth Hi-Fi Sports Headphone, but does Mac OS X support this device?

How to write a Christmas tale -- Comment() As Christmas is getting nearer, I started thinking of the preparations. A couple of years back I was asked to write a Christmas tale to a short deadline. The result was a guide to writing Christmas tales. I titled it 'The short course on writing Christmas tales'. My recommendation was to start writing in the Spring, to have enough time to think about your viewpoint. (See the tale in Finnish, Miten kirjoitan joulupakinan (lyhyt oppimäärä).)

Review of iMac G5 -- Comment() My iMac G5 review appeared in the MikroPC magazine (issue 13/2004). I had the 20"/1.8 GHz version at home for a week. I tested the speed, features, and general usability. I transferred my account, applications, and files from my iBook to the iMac G5 through FireWire using the setup tool. Thus I had a nice testing environment without extra work (all the preferences were transferred at the same time). The raw speed of the machine is impressive, although the video card could be faster. The machine is almost quiet. Ater a while I didn't notice if it was on or sleeping (well, the children generated much more background noise). The standard keyboard works well, and I managed to do with the standard mouse, but I do prefer a three-button rollwheel mouse. I edited a home movie with iMovie on the iMac G5, and the speed certainly was of help. Even thought the speakers are small, the sound quality was acceptable, except that bass is not so great (but not too bad either). The display was perhaps the most impressive part of the computer - bright, gorgeous colors, no bad reflections, lots of screen estate. Having all the connections at the back of the machine can be a nuisance, if you plug in cameras and other accessories all the time. On the other hand, the design certainly saves a lot of desk space. But I suggest getting a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to avoid cables. And using the machine through Wi-Fi (wlan) helps to save yet another cable. Because the power unit is inside the machine, there are no extra pieces of hardware laying on the floor. All in all - a great computer. I awarded it 4/5 stars. The minuses are too little standard memory (should be 512 MB), and the usability problem of having all the connections at the back of the machine. Plus there should be an option for a faster video card.
