[Item Permalink] Things which work better in Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4.2) -- Comment()
Many things work better in Tiger. Mail seems to recover better from interrupted network connections (such as switching to AirPort or VPN). Dashboard is excellent, I have about a dozen widgets running there - Sys Stat is nice, and also Wikipedia, Search Amazon etc.

I managed to get Cisco VPN working, even without rebooting the system. (Reloading the kernel extension and restarting the program helped.) I even tested VPN Tracker (it works with Cisco), but the licensing police seems to be problematic. At least Cisco VPN is free.

Suprising I haven't used Spotlight much, except with Mail. And there it works well, finding the right messages among over 35.000 in my mail folders. Some have complained that Mail is slow, but I haven't noticed such a thing. For me Mail seems to work faster than it used to do. And Mail hasn't crashed once so far. I even got PGP encryption working as before.

Best about upgrading from Panther (10.3.9) to Tiger (10.4.2) was the smoothness. No need to define printers from scratch, or to update various settings. Everything works the same as before. Since installing Tiger the machine has been up and running without problems (so far 6 days 21 hours).
