'Shoot-to-kill' policy to remain: "UK police say they will not abandon their "shoot-to-kill" policy despite the death of an innocent Brazilian." [BBC News | World | UK Edition]

What can I say? I was not there, so I don't know how the situation affected the victim or the shooters. But shooting someone in the head is definetely an extreme action. Can there ever be enough evidence to make this kind of on-the-spot capital punishment decisions?

My column on the London bombings and the revolution in media appeared today (in Finnish, Viestejä kaiken aikaa kaikkialta). Is Mac OS X Becoming Crufty?: "Two years ago, all of my Macs worked flawlessly. [...] Now, in this exciting year of the Tiger, a bunch of strange ailments has started affecting my machines. All three of them."

Sorry to hear about the problems. I have been using Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) for ten days on my PowerBook G4, so I'm not yet qualified to estimate the reliability. But for me Tiger hasn't presented any problems. Of course, no operating system (or the user for the matter) is infallible.
