Form follows Function in Organizations - a comment on Ray Ozzie's c|net article First cited in his weblog posting, Ray Ozzie's c|net article on the 'Mosaic of new opportunities' has got me thinking about the 'Form' side of 'Function'. Networks, be it P2P or any other, have organizations deeply struggling to adapt to it. 'Form' follows 'function' in biology and in social, political and war networks they do the same. Professor Arquilla, a Cyber warrior states - 'you fight networks with networks'. This tantamounts to profuse changes in organization design and getting rid of the hegemony, IS/IT monarchy, turf wars and fiefdoms within an organization takes a very long time. This change is critical for an organization to be connected to the 'Global computer'. As Peter Drucker puts it - 'it is difficult getting the organization to simultaneously be productive and innovative - and neither can you learn from the top down'. 7:13:09 AM ![]() |
