A Vision for Us All-Martin Luther King, Jr. In Rememberance

Martin Luther King, Jr. is one of my favorite distinguished persons in history. A good site to visit is the The King Center. It is a great source of information on King, what to do in rememberance, and great King items for sale. I can personally tell you, the calendar is interesting.

Here are two of my favorite parts of his famous "I Have A Dream" speech:

"In a sense we have come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

"When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, 'Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!' "

But are we really "free at last?"

When the Secretary of State can name any group and round them up without trial or charge, WE ARE NOT FREE.

August 1, 1996-Coalition Call for Preservation of the People's Fourth Amendment and Privacy
Rights

When George Bush can accuse any citizen of wrongdoing, detain and torture them without trial, WE ARE NOT FREE. 

Oct. 6, 2001-Nearly 600 detained--Widespread violations of civil liberties in US dragnet

When the racist policy of gun control obstructs an individual's Second Amendment right, WE ARE NOT FREE.

 We have a lot of work to do on behalf of all citizens. WE MUST DEMAND OUR FREEDOM FROM THE TYRANNY OF OUR GOVERNMENT.
