The late Show Gotta wrap this one up... OK, I was thinking of how may times I wrote "object of art", or "art object", or just "object" in the artist statement to the free ceramic sculpture exhibition we've been working on the last couple of days. That got me thinking about objectification and how art takes a perfectly good mug (often merely a second thought in one's thirst for coffee) and places it outside it's normal context. Art makes the mug more of an object than the mug/tool it was. Since one way art does this is by giving an object a title, "Objectification" is very much what we are working on.
How about the title: Bonus, I like the play on the phrase "Object of Art." Double Bonus, Google only has 24 listings for "Objectification of Art "
I need to add to the artist statement that the development of this show was recorded on this web site. |
