Confused.

I am confused this evening by this article in the Washington Post. Is it me, or did protestors get a little more stupid recently?
Capitol Police spokeswoman Jessica Gissubel says the group was arrested on the west, front grassy area of the Capitol building.

Gissubel says the arrests came after police reached agreement with protesters who wanted to be arrested.

She says police established a line and protesters were arrested for crossing it. Those taken into custody face a 50 dollar fine.

Okay, so let me get this straight. 23 people showed up at the Capitol to protest. This is how I imagine the conversation.

Protest Leader: "We're protesting. We wish to be arrested. How shall we best proceed?"
Capitol Police Officer: "You see that white line I have just placed on the ground? If you wish to be arrested, cross that line. We will arrest you, charge you $50 for being a moron, and send you home. Sound Good?"
Protest Leader: "Hmmm. I dunno, that sounds pretty easy."
Capitol Police Officer: "Hey, it's not rocket science, this getting arrested business.
Protest Leader:: "I guess you have a point."
Capitol Police Officer: "It's why they give me this shiny badge and matte black gun.
Protest Leader: "Oooo! You get a gun? Can I touch it?"
Capitol Police Officer: "I suppose we could arrest you for that, but it comes with jail time for the assault"
Protest Leader: "Oh. Well. Hmm. I think I'll just cross the line, if you please."
Capitol Police Officer: "Suit Yourself"
It was at this point that the Protestors crossed the line, got arrested, paid $50 for the pleasure of wearing little plastic handcuffs and seeing a judge, all the while supporting the government they despise. They then returned to buying Abercrombie and Fitch flannels as well as driving Daddy's SUV.

Weekend Thoughts on Wifi, life.

I'm writing this entry from Common Grounds on Wilson Blvd. The day has turned from gorgeous sunshine and beautiful weather, to dark and windy and chilling again. We spent the weekend basking in that glory that is Spring in DC, but are being plunged back into the depths of winter once again. 37 tomorrow, possibly some snow on Thursday.

Last night we went out to dinner at Buca di Beppo up on Conn Ave, and set out to redesign my blog a bit. That being concluded, we're sitting in the café working on a project for my sister and one for my family. That's right, I'm infecting my family with the blog virus. My Dad already has one, as does my cousin Brian. But I think of it this way...we send a lot of email to each other, wouldn't it be easier to just check a webpage now and again? I'm not sure if the Boomers would take to it, but I think that the Pig's Eye Gen (my generation, long story.) would take it to it pretty well.

I'm feeling a little bit down today, with regard to my blog. Sure, I've done a good chunk of work on it lately, but I'm not sure that there's any point to me doing this. Some people blog about their life and get acclaim. Some people blog about technology and get acclaim. Doing both parts together is by no means easy. It's hard to please both sets of audiences. There are some folks who love to read the "went to work. Killed my coworkers, then went to have a Guinness with Ted" and some who want to read deep philosophical rants on technology.

I suppose the best I can do is write about baseball passionately, technology with reason, and politics just about never, since no one I know seems to share my particular bent on the screwed up nation we live in. I guess you're going to see more differentiation in writings around here. Less random links, more content. Anyone with a copy of NetNewsWire or a bookmark to Fark can see the random links I put up here. And Best of the Web seems to cover that in a different fashion than I.

Look forward...I hope the best is yet to come.

It works!!

Okay, just for clarification's sake, this was indeed Tiffany's idea. The new link bar to right is her design. Check it out, give me feedback. If a link doesn't work, let me know, I tried to check them all before putting it in, but I'm not sure I got them all right. The Green dot is the RSS feed for the site, the Name links to their blog homepage.

Changes

So, you're going to see a few changes around here over the next few days. Between Tiffany and I, we've got some ideas for design on this blog that just need to happen.

Please welcome the menu bar at the top of the screen. It's here to stay. Coming soon will be a replacement for the Nav bar at your right to change all those links into something SO much more fun. It's exciting times here at RTA, and darnit, we're here to make sure you're having fun.
