We've all been there. You have to provide an Excel export for some data you are displaying on the web. The customer isn't going for the generic CSV format because it doesn't have enough "punch".

Believe me, I feel your pain. To you and me it's text and numbers - format them however you want and let me write some code. It's surprising how often that response doesn't fly.

Well, check out this MSDN article that has information about HTML support in Excel 97. There are Microsoft extensions to some of the HTML tags (surprise!!) that allow formatting, formulas, and some other goodies.
