Guardian: "The historical community seems to be providing the ideal conditions for the Nietzschean approach of the Bush administration. As one senior presidential adviser scarily informed journalist Ron Suskind: 'We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality ... we'll act again, creating other new realities ... We're history's actors ... and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.'
Rather than tempering such terrifying ambition, US scholars are happy to play up to it.
At a time when the US imperium is rampaging across the globe, you might have thought there would be a historical concern to enlighten the domestic citizenry about foreign cultures and peoples. Instead, public scholars are feeding the nation's increasingly insulated mentality with a retreat into the cosy fables of their forebears."
And while the vain talk of freedom continues, civil rights and freedom in the Heimat are eroded more and more.
MySA: "In three years, U.S. citizens and Canadians will have to show passports or a federally issued ID cards linked to Homeland Security databases to re-enter the country from across the border.
Homeland Security now fingerprints and photographs foreigners at major airports and seaports and 50 land points of entry through the US-VISIT program. By the end of this year, the department must have in place its system for tracking when visitors leave the country."
The agitprop is organised on a local level. A culture of snitching is necessary to hold the people in fear. Of course, Americans have no idea of real history and what happened in Germany in the 1930's.
When the difference between reality and myth becomes too great, that is the time when empires start to crumble, when megalomania and faulty decisions based on myth wreck the system.
