Statewatch: "The text of the EU's draft Reform Treaty released at the end of July and the EU Council Presidency is planning for it to be agreed in mid-October. The draft Reform Treaty would repeal or amend every single Article of the 62 Articles of the current Treaty on European Union (TEU) and would make 296 amendments to the 318 Articles of the current Treaty establishing the European Community (TEC). Taking account of the summer break this leaves very little time for civil society, national parliaments and the European Parliament to examine the draft text before it is agreed.

In order to further public understanding of and debate upon the draft Reform Treaty, ten Statewatch analyses by Professor Steve Peers, University of Essex make the text of the draft Treaty comprehensible, by setting out the entire texts of the existing TEU and TEC and showing precisely how those texts would be amended by the draft Treaty.

Moreover, the text of the Reform Treaty is completely unintelligible unless it is read alongside the existing Treaties. Furthermore, the full impact of many of the amendments to the Treaties set out in the draft Reform Treaty needs further explanation. Finally, there has been much public discussion of whether or not the draft Reform Treaty is essentially identical to the EU's Constitutional Treaty of 2004."

Statewatch: "Liberal Democrat MEPs, Sophie In't Veld and Graham Watson, have tabled a written question to the European Commission and Council expressing serious concerns about the impact on data privacy for European citizens of a new US law proposed by the US Administration and approved by Congress at the end of last week.

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act aims to intercept electronic communications of US and non-US citizens alike without requiring a special warrant and gives US authorities (National Intelligence Director and Attorney General) 'carte blanche' to determine the procedures for monitoring and assessing compliance.

The collection of foreign intelligence is deemed to be key in the fight against terrorism but is set so wide that it risks including vast amounts of innocent telecommunication traffic of business and private citizens using Blackberries, computers or other devices which use US based companies or service providers to relay messages and emails around the world."

Bush should now be public enemy number one in most if not all foreign countries; at least he has declared all foreign nationals fair game.

NachrichtenHeute: "Thanks to Progressive Democrats of America PDA chapters nationwide that have taken the lead with screenings of the new documentary 'War Made Easy'.
The film features stunning archival footage of official lies and media complicity in wars from Vietnam to Iraq. But the movie also includes the heroic voice of PDA advisory board member Barbara Lee. To see rare footage of her prophetic speech on the House floor three days after 9/11, watch the clip [on the link]."

AnotherDayInTheEmpire: "Is it possible Markos Alberto Moulitsas Zúñiga, leader of the 'Kossaks', that is to say followers and fawners of the Daily Kos, is a CIA operative? Francis Holland, posting on the My Left Wing messageboard, details Moulitsas' relationship with the CIA:
'Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, owner of the DailyKos website, now admits that he spent six months in the employ of the US Central Intelligence Agency in 2001,' writes Holland. 'In a one-hour interview on June 2, 2006 at the Commonwealth Club, Moulitsas, also known as 'Kos', admitted that he was a CIA employee and would have 'no problem working for them' in the present."

A few months ago I kicked Daily Kos out of my news aggregator. He was acting weird anyway.
