TV Or No TV, That Is My Dilemma
So I'm here in this great house, with a pretty nifty TV, and two -- count them two -- satellite dishes on the roof, and do I have any sort of television programming to watch? No. I just haven't had time or the deep down burning desire to get myself hooked-up.
So tonight I just got off the phone with a local guy who does satellite dish installations, and I asked him about the possibility of getting Sky Network here in Germany. I could get AFN or the European satellite service in a zillion different languages, but I really want Sky, because that's where I'd find all the English football games I could ever want to see.
He said sure you can have Sky, but it'll cost.
How much?
690 euro to get up and running.
Ouch.
So now I'm torn. Do I lay down a big wad of cash to get the Sky channels, or do I go the cheapie way out and just get the six AFN channels and try and be happy with that? Or get the European package and watch Italian soap operas and French game shows?
Or be incredibly bold and spurn televison altogether! Reject the vast television waste land and just stick to the even more vast internet waste land and get all my outside input from there.
Oh, who am I kidding? I just might as well scrape together the 690 euro and call the guy right back. Fate has a larger role to play in this than I do. Either fate or a sad dependence on sports.
