It's been three years since UEN has had a salary increase. Cost for Benefits have continued to increase every year. Through hard choices we have decreased staff by 10 people over 2 years. Even so, the work load continues to grow.

So on Tuesday we got together for lunch. It technically wasn't a Christmas party. More a celebration. With all of the cuts we still have installed Ethernet circuits in Vernal, Roosevelt, Escalante, Provo and Salt Lake. We have been able to increase our Internet bandwidth from 400 Mbps to 900 Mbps capacity without increasing expenses. We've just upgraded our backbone to NorTel Optera equipment and increased our capacity to carry video and data traffic the length of the State without adding much cost. Qwest donated $2 Miliion in CVDS equipment in support of our project. It isn't every day that we undergo a major upgrade to our backbone. It went smooth. No problems and the network is performing better than ever.

We kept the expenses for the lunch down to a minimum. Still, it was nice to get together and celebrate our successes. It is my privilege to work at UEN. The people here are great. We do good work and provide a good service to our customers. We care...........
