Innocence to Innocence
Remember when you were innocent? When the world held endless possibilities, there were no bad guys and every day was filled with something new?
That was my first 10 years.
Remember when you had your first cynical thought? When your parents were holding you back, your friends seemed so smart and your whole life was in front of you?
That was my teens.
Remember becoming an adult? There was no time for anything but work. Every moment was spent in the quest of money and credibility. The feeling of how great it was to be young and intelligent.
Yes, that was my twenties.
Remember feeling smart and starting to get ahead in business? Those days of endless hours at the office and greater responsibilities. You know, feeling like you'd finally arrived.
Yep, my thirties.
Remember your first brush with mortality? Realizing that your career was more than half over? Discovering that success isn't just about you. Wanting more time and less hassle. Appreciating little things like time with family, long walks, quiet evenings at home.
This has been my Forties.
What will the Fifties hold? Probably more mellowing, more valuing of time, more patience, less worry about money, grandchildren.
The Sixties? Time with old friends, fishing trips, golf, retirement, acceptance of growing old?
The Seventies? Who knows? Greater insights? Great Grandchildren? Perhaps a return to innocence and development of wisdom. I hope to be there. The important thing is to enjoy the ride.........
