Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Walks in the Woods

My little mountain is calling to me. For the past two mornings I've left the warmth and comfort of my home and spent hours walking in the woods. It's been cold, about 22 degrees as I started this morning. By the time I finished my walk, some three hours later, it had warmed all the way to 24 degrees. I'm so happy about the invention of fleece, thermal underwear and thinsulate.

I'm also happy to know that my little deer herd seems to be healthy and well. On Saturday I saw 16 deer and on Sunday there were well over 20 deer in my little canyon.

This canyon is an unlikely spot. From the freeway there is nothing that would lead a person to think that it is home to so many wild animals. And I'm sure that it isn't unique. There are deer, fox, rabbits, squirrels, skunks, eagles, hawks, mountain lion, snakes and many other creatures all over these hills. It makes me happy to think of how we seem to prosper alongside each other. It also makes me happy to know that not much has changed during the summer. How cool is that?.........
