What a great day. I read the weather forcast in this morning's paper. Cloudy all day. What a relief when I got outside and found sunshine. And what a surprise. The weatherman was wrong, again.

After a slow start I finally got to the front yard with rake in hand. We have a gigantic tree on our lot. It gives shade in the summer and drops millions (I'm not making this up) of leaves each fall. Today was my time to get more personally involved with those leaves.

My neighbor, also going by the name of Jim, was out working in his yard. He had a radio and I heard the faint strains of Christmas carols. I asked Jim to turn up the volume. We both raked leaves fallen from my tree as we listened to tunes and conversed. I apologized that my thoughtless tree had dropped so may leaves on Jim's drive and side yard. Jim didn't seem to mind, telling me that he had benefitted from the shade all summer and that he loved my old, big tree.

I filled the bed of my little red truck twice and transported my leaves to Dad's garden a few miles south. Better to go to the trouble rather than having them go to waste in a local landfill. A majority of the leaves are still hanging in the branches. A week from now most of them should be down to ground level. Hopefully the weather will hold and I'll have another day like this to finish the job.

Not being able to get to all the leaves made this a fun, slow day. No matter what else happens, I know that there will be more leaves strewn about the yard tomorrow...........
