Louisiana Optical Network Initiative

http://www.cct.lsu.edu/projects/loni/underdog.php

LONI is a big time commitment by the state of Louisiana.

The governor has allocated $40 million to build and maintain a statewide optical network for higher education.

The legislature has already allocated $3.2 million for LONI.

The Board of Regents cobbled together $5 million to join NLR.

Is Louisiana a technology big dog?

Apparently so.........

botnets & honeypots

What is a botnet? What is a honeypot? What do these things have in common? Here is a good article with botnet and honeypot information. I've gotten it from two sources now. It was forwarded with high recommendation from Troy Jessup. For anyone interested in network security with a need to better understand these issues it's a good read.......

Tivo and Comcast team up

I just can't keep up with things. This article giving the details about the Tivo/Comcast agreement was released earlier this morning.

If you keep up with certain pvr blogs then you know that rumors have been circulating through blog space. But I don't have the energy to keep up with all this in real time. Fortunately I have time today to do some surfing. I'm becoming more dependent on slashdot. Mostlly because it is a quick way to link to information that interests me.

I wonder how long it will take for Tivo to update the software and then how long it will take Comcast to get Tivo to my neighborhood. This may be the thing that will get me into Tivo. As long as it doesn't take forever.........
